Simple Laundering Instructions
See also Pooters Laundering Tips.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Wool items must be washed differently. See Caring for Wool and Lanolizing.
Washing Instructions
- Place diapers and diaper pail liner in washing machine
- Run one (1) COLD wash cycle with detergent (1 to 2 tbsp).
*See Also Recommended Detergents - Run one (1) HOT wash cycle with no detergent
- Dry (either in dryer or on clothesline)
Special Note on Load Size and Detergent Amounts:
For top loading washers, the amount of water you use and the amount of detergent you use can be critical in whether or not your diapers get clean. Add too much water and your diapers can't brush up against each other to get clean. Add too little water and your diapers can't move around enough to get clean. Here's what we recommend:
- <10 diapers - Use SMALL load setting
- 10 to 20 diapers - Use MEDIUM load setting
- 20 to 25 diapers - Use LARGE load setting
- 25+ - Use X-LARGE load setting
Instructions for Front Loading Washers:
HE washers use less water and as a result, it makes it difficult to thoroughly wash and rinse cloth diapers. To ensure your diapers get clean, first Saturate diapers by either running a COLD rinse cycle with no spin cycle OR running a short COLD wash cycle on delicate. Then follow the steps above..
Cloth Diaper Safe Disinfectants
- 1 cup of White Distilled Vinegar (kills germs and odors)
- 1/4 cup of Hydrogen Peroxide (kills germs and whitens)
- 1 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar (kills yeast and other germs and odors)
- 20 to 40 drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract (kills yeast and other germs and odors)
- 1 to 2 tsps of 100% Australian Tea Tree Oil (kills yeast and other germs and odors)
Caring for Bamboo and Hemp
Hemp and bamboo have natural oils in them that aren’t fully dissolved until they’ve been washed 8 times. For this reason, hemp and bamboo fabrics don’t reach their full absorbency potential until they’ve been washed at least 8 times. Washing them 8 times is known as “prepping” them. While you can use them safely prior to washing them 8 times, just know that they won’t be as absorbent until they’ve been fully “prepped”.
Caring for Fleece
Fleece is very absorbent, but when compressed, it releases all the moisture it's retaining. So make sure when you put a fleece cover on your baby that the clothes you place around it aren’t snug fitting. If they are, they will squeeze the fleece and you’ll wake up to a wet baby.
